Yes, the title of this post comes from the new Coldplay album, although I am not such a big fan of it (the album, not the line). Along with being the album title, it is also the summation of me for the past few weeks. I am back in Nebraska right now, doing absolutely nothing. Well, that isn't entirely true. I am working out on a regular basis, reading, religiously making my website rounds (gmail, luther mail, facebook, steep and cheap, whiskey militia, and chain love in that order), and helping my dad tear down a shed. One thing I am not doing, and thoroughly enjoying, is holding down a job. I am among the many that are unemployed in this nation. But, living off your parents allows you to do that. Am I proud of this? Not really, but I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth...you know?
A couple weeks ago I graduated (I think, however I have yet to receive any proof of actually earning a degree). That was kind of neat. I don't really buy into it being a huge ordeal or anything, but Sean Astin spoke at the ceremony. And as I thought, he referenced all of his major box office hits. All five of them. It was kind of corny, but whatever.
After graduation I hung around Decorah for a while, drinking the last of our booze and reliving the great times had that year. I also received a road bike as a graduation gift. Now I ride on a daily basis, weather permitting, and I love the sport. I don't know if I am any good or not, but it is something new and more scenic than the bottom of a swimming pool.
I went and got my military physical. Did I mention I was going into the Marines? Not enlistment, but rather their OCS (Officer Candidate School) to become an Officer a 2nd lieutenant. It is going to be roughly 3 years and 8 months, unless I decide to go the aviation route. I am leaning toward that right now. If that works out then it will be more along 8 years of service. Anyway, I went to go get my physical and passed with flying colors. They actually give you a Breathalyzer test when you get there, to make sure you aren't an alcoholic.
Other than that, nothing really exciting has happened. I am planning on doing a couple of triathlons this summer, The Cornman and The Trihawk Triathlon (that one is more towards the fall I guess). I am also trying to plan a sweeping visit of a lot of friends from Luther. It will consist of a long stay in the Twin Cities, then a stop in Lacrosse, WI followed by Madison, WI and then Chicago. There are a couple of weddings this summer I plan on going to. A frisbee tournament in Brookings, SD/party with the LUFDA guys. And a trip to Wyoming with my dad to see my grandpa. So some fun things planned for this summer, but they are taking a while to get here.
As for now I must go. I am going to watch There Will Be Blood and see what all the hype is about.
