The Waiting Game

So today is the last day of classes.  I am never going to attend another class as an undergraduate.  It is pretty exciting, if I do say so myself.  In 10 days I will be walking across the stage in Carlson Stadium.  I wasn't real excited when graduating from high school, because that seemed like something everyone should do.  And really, coming into college, it seemed like this was a pretty normal thing as well.  However, through the years I have seen people come and go, and sometimes come back.  And in this last semester I have found that sometimes you run into a class or two that really make you think if you belong in college.  In distance running, marathons and ultra-marathons, a lot of athletes will hit what most call 'the wall'.  It is an occurrence due to intense fatigue, both mentally and physically.  And nobody hits it at mile 5, 10, or even 20.  The wall usually pops up around miles 23-25.  With only 10% left, people drop like flies.  And that is where I was.  Weeks away from becoming a college graduate, I was ready to stop.  Doesn't make much sense does it?

Anyway, I made it through.  So where is life taking me post-grad?  Well initially I was going to take a job coaching for a club swimming team, GNST-CAL, back home in Nebraska (Lincoln).  However, in this last week I have had a change of heart.  About a year ago, I received an email promoting an Officer Candidate School (OCS).  After talking to my uncle Ken, a retired Captain, it sounded like a great idea.  However, over the last year I got too caught up in classes and what not and never got around to calling about it.  It just happened that Marcus is going into OCS and I was able to talk to some other officers about it and decided to do it.  So now I have three months before I become a whole new person.  My goal in all this is to get accepted into the aviation school, which translates into roughly 8 years in the USMC.

Ten days and I will be a graduate, three months and I will be at the bottom of the ladder again.  I have never been so excited!
