My Bucket List

In 20 years I will be retired.

That is a long time from now, I know. In 20 years I will be 42 years old. Considering the average age of retirement is 65 and growing, 42 is very young. So that got me thinking, what am I going to do with all my time.

To preface this, I know that it seems silly to think about retirement before I have REALLY started my job yet. But in my defense, I want to plan my retirement now while I am still young and active. Talking to my dad, he deals with a lot of retirees that do nothing but sit around which leads to health problems and boredom.

As the ideas started brewing, this list turned into a list of things I wanted to do before I died. A bucket list, if you will.

Anyway, here is what I have so far:
  • Get a literary work published
  • Fully restore a 1961 Lincoln Continental and drive Route 66 in it.
  • Learn to surf
  • Run an Ironman
  • Become self-sufficient regarding food
  • Drink a pint of Guinness at a pub in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day
  • Run with the Bulls in Pamplona
  • Throw a tomato during La Tomatina
  • Ride the Trans-Siberian Express across Asia
  • Visit all seven continents (One down already!)
  • Experience Carnival in Brasil
  • Scuba the Great Barrier Reef
  • Bathe in the Ganges
  • Participate in Burning Man
  • Attend the Olympics
  • Oktoberfest!
  • Be in the stands for an Argentina v. Brazil football match
  • Skydive
  • Bike the Pacific Coast Highway
  • Learn both Mandarin Chinese and Spanish
As you can see, most of them are travel related. Maybe I have a travel bug but there is just so much out there. The worst part about this is that the list will most likely increase in size before it decreases.
